Thanks Emma no neck wringing here :applause:

That clears it up for me. Thanks

That’s crazy that small vessels don’t need to be in survey or have a trained guide.

Thats like having a taxi driver using a small car doesnt need to comply or have a trained ticketed driver . just weird
I thought the operators I've had encounters with must have no tickets of any kind due to their actions – ie they didn’t know the rules

That is correct Brent - you need to apply through fisheries for a Fishing Tour Operators Lic (FTO) (fill in form). Have 10m Public Liability, senior first aid and that it is. However, you should really only be fishing the billabongs etc... not going our chasing sails, macks and Tuna etc...

Bugger, I can’t start up and call myself Nomad Charters. It’s already taken
Maybe I could call myself nofish charters. Then the punters wouldn’t be dissapointed

[quote="drifter "My boats are in both 2C and 2D Survey."

Further, how is a punter to know what a 2C or 2D licence covers?

I'm still a bit in the dark. Why do you need both (2c & 2d) & what's the difference?

This thread seems to have been diverted.
So to get back on point.
Should TO's display their qualifications
And if someone went outside of, or didn't have survey, would the punter be covered by insurance?

If the operator had valid public liability insurance you would still be covered as the punter same as any business that deals with the public, you do something that is not right and the public gets hurt the valid insurance will cover it. Would not like to see the next years premiums though.
Maybe they should display the compliance qualifications or at least have them available on request

Marine regulations require that all surveys and masters qualifications should be available onboard the vessel. It in fact states that they must be displayed in a easily visible location. These certificates will tell you the amount of passengers allowed, what distance off shore, crew required for the vessel and any other specific restrictions for the vessel ie speed restrictions, weight allowed or other restrictions if applicable. If not displayed ask to view them.

The insurance policy should be in date as long as the operator has a FTO licence, I believe this is a requirement of the licence. Generally all FTO's should have licence plates stating they are an FTO on any motor vehicles that they are transporting you in. If all else fails request it on booking or book with bigger more reputable opperators.

As for should it be a requirement for the operators to have there compliance shown on a web site, couldn't really hurt but doubt it will happen.

dunno what the problem with the video is, but looks like an example of someone who should spend more time fishing than trying to stir up cr.p to me.

Saw a great shirt at bali last I was there, they are smart people in bali

Go to bunnings, buy some wood, build a bridge and get over it.

There was a time this forum was about fishing and not bitching
