Best fishing holiday destinations

Post by Melv »

Ladies, gents and others.....

Myself and three mates all turn 50 in 2017 and are starting to plan a 10 - 14 day "boys own" overseas adventure with fishing to play a big part in proceedings (probably second only to drinking...........). At this stage potential destinations include Vanuatu, Cook Islands, New Zealand and the like. Keen to get feedback on any trips anyone has done, good, bad or otherwise to similar sort of places. Main interest would be light tackle sport fishing but happy to look at anything that involves wetting a line.

Look forward to your feedback

Cook Islands are my favorite place in the world. Trying to work out how I can live and work there???

We go there every couple of years and are going at Christmas. I fly fish Autitaki and its great. Not sure if it is a "boys away" fishing destination? a bit quite.

For adventure maybe try PNG. I took the family to New Britain last Christmas. The water is amazing 10m to 1000m deep within 150m. Now that's a drop off.
I didn't get the fishing dialed in but it is no doubt worth the effort to sort out a trip there.

The builders who are building my friend house do an annual run to kuala romping chasing sails and reef fishing. They reckon it's about 1300 for 4 days fishing , flights , transfer from Singapore and food.

I'm chasing more details as it look good for a boys week away.

There was a fishing comp organised in East Timor a while back, the finger-lickin' chicken they served was much discussed on here ...

South Afica chasing Tigerfish, absolutely unbelievable trip and with the $ being at around 9 Rand to $1 makes it as cheap as chips once you arrive, only thing is it's pretty pricey for air tickets........
A standard shot of spirits is a double in South Africa too. :drinking5:

Second for tiger fishing in africa. I was in zimbabwe and managed some awesome fishing including large mouth bass which they stock in most dams. Tiger fish are one fish I reckon you have to have on your bucket list.
Also mozimbique is just around the corner and hold.some of the largest dogtooth in the world Along with marlin and many other species
Good hunting too and carton of smokes $9us, carton of beer $12-18us
Expensive to get there but cheap while your there

don't discount the locals because they often have short notice trips for more than 50% off. contactthem and leave your details.

I went on Nomad charters (ironic i know) - they needed to fill a single spot, they called me on wed and sailed the following Sunday from Cairns. great trip, cheap as chips and free beer

I second Nomads comments. Ausie destinations are top notch.

A mate and I sailed out on K2O from Broome and went up the Kimberly coast trailing 3 tenders. It was a memorable fishing and relaxing experience and a lot more luxury than I was anticipating.
