What do you lads think?
Spider hitch in your leader? would be hell through the guides?

not really a problem KD.....the line sits at right angles to the braid where they loop (not really evident in this pic) so this acts as a cushion on the top guide when you wind in....this is particularly useful at night.....it lets you know when to stop winding so the knot never actually goes through the eye. I make the leader about a meter long which for me is perfect for casting...which I do most of. I find it easy to tie in the dark and only takes a minute to replace it.

Hi all,

Tried tying the knot and made a reasonable Kobe of it on my second attempt.

Used the following method which made it very easy to tie a neat knot

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D3EB4lN ... re=related

Tried catching a fish with it today, but the fish did not want to help test the knot unfortunately!

Will leave it connected to give it a good workout at some stage.
Cheers,

Ash

Sounds like some good info here for getting things perfect but I've gone with simple, since that's what has worked for me. I think tying a simpler knot well is more effective then tying good knots poorly, especially at night. I guess fishing line classes for bill fish this is more important and far more challenging on knots and line what I chase.

I use uni-knot to uni-knot for joining the lines and a simple granny knot with 4 turns to double the braid. I think maybe one has failed in the past few years, probably just a poorly tied one early on and I've been pulling down mangrove trees, straightening hooks, lifting coral reefs and lemon sharks nearly daily. The braid uni-knot smooths the cast through the rings as it sits in front of the leader uni-knot and if don't wind the leader on hard each retrieve, then it's all apples.

I'm so far from expert that it's amazing but I like Jinkai 60pd leader for most things, easy to tie in my opinion.

8 minutes to tie a single not in perfect conditions with using a jig seems a little extreme to me.

8 minutes?? jig?? What jig? I use my hands. Takes a couple of minutes. Saves time whilst out fishing as you dont have to retie a trace when you get snagged.

Hi Guys

I was asked to do a bit of an update on the Albright knot.

Seems that you can have some 12 or more versions of it.

Generally you can do 6 turns down and one spiral back and the tag thru.
Then you can do the 6 turns down and 6 back over the top then the tag thru.
Flatten out the braid and fold it over, this adds a few versions to the above and makes the join stronger.
Then you can do the final and pass the tag 3 times thru.

Then a few more options as shown below. These are so the join pulls from the bottom and the spiral adds a little strength.

But none of this as strong as the Pullon leader sysyem.

Must be doin it all wrong..I simply fold me leader over and pinch it between thumb and forefinger, pass the braid thru the eye and pinch it with the leader, then do 9 wraps back up and pass the tag thru the 'eye' from the same side as it went in.. pull the mainline gently to set the bottom wrap and pull both main line/tag and leader/ tag together till snugged up then puull hard on main and leader to lock it.. trim leader flush, and leave about 2mm of main tag, which will fluff out with use..Never had one let go even on 3m lemon dragged to the surface, tend to break the leader before the braid, and usually at the terminal knot. Finished knot in 50lb is around 3mm long and doesn't flog the guides. In 30lb it's only 1 1/2 mm to 2 mm. used to put a drop of superglue on and flick the excess off, but don't even bother with that now, made the knot too stiff.
