Mates trip end of May 09

Post by Bushy »

G,day all
Just after some ideas where 4 or 5 of us fellas should go at end of May 09 to the Top end, we were thinking of trying Dundees will have a 4.2 metre boat Just not sure yet though where to go. Any help would be great we will be fishing for a full week and the wifes will be staying home so we only care about the fishing quality not the 5 star rating accom.

Dundee is good although with a boat that size if it blows you could be in the poo,it also depends on how long the run off lasts if we have a good wet there should be some hot barra fishing to be had then you could do worse than stay at Point Stuart Wilderness lodge and fish Shady Camp where you can fish the barrage or go downstream in your boat and get the fish of a lifetime or go out the front if the weather is kind and get jewies or you could stay out at the South Alligator and fish there, with either of the last 2 your trip wont be ruined by fowl weather the Daly River could be included in that also but at that time of the year you will have to book accomodation wherever you go.

late may might be a bit late for shady for the best of the barra fishing but the south upstream on the rock bars should be still fishing ok this just depends on when the rain finishes and how good the wet is

but as you proberbly know the Finniss fishes longer as with the daly

but the wind can be a bit of a worry at dundee but you should be right

just my slant on your question

Yep Bushy theres some good jewfish ground not far out from the river mouths but hold off for a while to see what sort of wet we get as to wether the barra will be still on the go out that way,the good thing with Shady is some can fish off the barrage as I doubt you will all be getting in the boat unless you are jockey size.

i would go to the new channel point boat ramp went there in september 08 fishing was awsome from 1.4m mackerals to 70cm golden snapper all within 15kms of the boat ramp. The road when we went was terrible though and camp sites are small but next time we intened to bring the chainsaw and make them a bit bigger if you know what i mean. Going there again in early may and probley august-september.

good way to get a place like that closed down, :| a lot of people have worked pretty hard to get acsess to that place opened up to the public. be a shame if it was closed down because someone cut sic with a chainsaw because the camp sites "where not big enough" :x

Hear hear..... unless you want to take a 50 man tent then the sites should be just fine...

I will also let you in on the fact that the ranger who looks after that camp ground and surrounding area just happens to be a very good friend of mine.... I would suggest that taking to the camp ground with a chain saw might just land you infront of the local Darwin Magistrate..if you know what I mean :bonk:

all i can say is why would you jepardise something that is a great step forward for access by doing something so childish and unthoughtful.

And if it did resued in loosing the resource which i have no doubt that it would

then IMHO you would be no better than the low lifes that engaged in valdalism and the like at boat ramps through out the NT

rant finished
