Yamaha 100 trim motor issue
My 2010 Yamaha 100 outboard trim motor has developed a intermittent fault. The relays still click when the switch is pushed however no motor noise. If I give the outboard a wobble or some revision reverse it starts to work. Out of the water it will work if I give it a tap with a soft hammer.
Motor has about 260hours and has only been used twice this year
Any ideas where look for a fix?

Hi Sheps. I had a couple replaced under warranty when I had my Yammie. Seems water ingress to the switch is the issue. Fairly common I believe.

Hit the trim motor with a spanner and away she goes
I & O put new bushes in under warranty $11 bucks in parts or something
Good luck!

A mate had the same issue, pulled the motor cover off and gave it a clean, still going strong after a few months, keep a close eye on the small springs and magnets if you pull out the rotating assembly.

Re: Yamaha 100 trim motor issue
Hi guys,
Stumbled upon this thread when diagnosing the problem I have with my 115HP Yamaha. Sounds very similar to what has been described.
I've ordered a new trim motor and was planning on replacing the old one. Do you reckon this is the way to go or just to give the old one a clean as mentioned.
How'd you go with yours sheps?

Re: Yamaha 100 trim motor issue
I though it had self healed as it started working like new again however after a fish on Friday it started playing up again so I will pull it apart and check the brushes.Yammy115 wrote:

Can anyone point me towards a schematic of the Yamaha trim motor?

Re: Yamaha 100 trim motor issue
I couldn't find a schematic so just pulled it apart. Brushes were seized and there was a fair bit of carbon in there. I gave everything a good clean with contact cleaner and gave the armature a rub with 2000grit wet and dry. Seems to now be working ok
