I’m interested to know how often FTO’s release fish? I've only been out a couple of times here but I've never seen it

I’m sure that the FTO are ripping the poop out of the stocks compared to us.
Common-sense dictates that the numbers of pax pulling in fish each day on the increasing numbers of operators far exceeds the numbers we take.
But, the number of amateurs fishing is also increasing and that must also mean the numbers of fish taken is also increasing.
then there's the pros

Is there a need to get accurate numbers caught - and is that even possible.
Now, if fisheries ever really got accurate data, what would they do with it?
I cant see that FTO will ever pass on factual figures to fisheries. Its just not in their interests
The same goes for accurate numbers from amateurs.
I think we would all be shocked by the real situation re fish stocks but unless there is a heap of research done very soon, I’m positive that our stocks would go the way of all other throughout the world.
I just hope its not too late

Back to the OP, dont all fish caught get given away to charity or is that now changed/

Nomad the info I got back form them suggested that their major concern was that people would enter and would continue to catch fish of a specific species until they catch the big one so could by virtue of some peoples lack of any sort of care factor catch and release (read kill due to barrotrauma) 20 of a species before they got the mighty BIG one. They would throw most of them over the side to take their chances and only bring in the one they want to weigh in.

If this type of thing is going, which im sure it is day in day out them there is little they can do about it. Personally I am not interested in a comp where reef fish arent included as i dont have the smarts to catch sails, and marlin etc so Ill just go reef fishing and catch my bag and give the comp a miss. It will be interesting to see how many entries they get.

Exactly, AFANT do SFA.

They should rename it to AFANTDSFA.

I'll probably still enter if I can get away

Still catch and keep a few reefies as usual, also have a go for queenies, macks, Trevor's etc and if so bring em back to weigh in,

As discussed will be interesting to see how many enter, and if it has a big impact on that.

Still plenty of Pelagics etc to have a go for, maybe I can get that Marlin in this year :-)
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Especially when you can see them!

Deflect any accusation that FTOs contribute to the depletion of fish stocks onto recreational fishermen.

Yeah you’re right Jimmy. In past work life, I was trained to question everything i was told and only believe 1/2 of what i saw. (most of the people i dealt with were crooks) The old trust no one syndrome.
I've tried to get out of that mindset but it creeps back in from time to time.
thanks for pulling me into line :D

This comp rule looks like they are penalising everyone just because of the few who do the wrong thing.

I still believe that humans, in general, will try to do the right thing - but when it comes to depleting fish stocks and looking after the place, we have a shocking record

We ?? Or commercial!!
It would be physically impossible for the entire worlds amatuer fisherman to deplete fish stocks
That's a fact well one I just made up :)
With commercial fishing going on amateurs are a grain of salt in the ocean IMO .
People with cats are the worst ! Buying cat food :) :)

Which is exactly why I let my cats roam. So I don't have to feed them canned fish.

It's the old adage Doug if there is a buck to be made a lot of peoples scruples go out the Window. This includes Commercial (obviously) FTO (obviously) and the grubby pr..ks that go out with no license and sell fish on the black market. I think these are on the decrease. And then there are the guys that slip into more than one of these categorty's. FTO's selling fish for example. Either way they all have financial gain to be made. In the most part I think most amatuers do the right thing.

Either way back to the point at hand
AFANT = waste of space
Fisheries = FTO whipping boys
Ghound = p...ed off
