Why would anybody go to an AFANT meeting??
I didn't elect them they don't speak for me?
I went to one a few years ago there were more tour operators than rec fisho's. FFF harmsey gave the then fisheries minister a spray (firken funny)
Then they talked about the Daly. I think the best thing a rec fisho can do is boycott AFANT personally. And Nomad if what your saying is right and part of your fishing club membership goes directly to AFANT I would boycott that as well.
Way to many alterior motives for my liking.

The same can be said for the new govt. - the new govt does speak for us and make decisions on our behalf.ghound wrote:I didn't elect them they don't speak for me?
Whether we like it or not, “AFANT is recognised by both the NT and Commonwealth Governments as the peak body representing recreational fishing interests in the Northern Territory.”
Bodies like afant will always have the ear of a govt compared to an individual voice with an issue, no matter how credible.
I know of at least one club that pays $5 to afant per club membership. That is associate membership onlyv- ie no voting rights.
I tend to think that if we want to make a difference, we need to have our collective voices heard. Maybe we should pay the extra $5 and become a full member with voting rights

Round and round and Round and round and Round and round and Round and round and Round and round and Round and round....
I will continue to rape and pillage the ocean and when there's no fish left I'm going to shoot everything!
That's right... Fill my esky until the lid busts off, why? Because I'm allowed too! And anything that looks half dead I will use for bait!!!
And while I'm doing it I'm going to drink unlimited stubbies because I can.
Soon there will be no sharks to play with at flat top too.
The world is fu(&ed!

AFANT does a lot of good work, but remember it is basically one bloke (the paid one) and a paid helper, and there's probably never been as many hard NT issues to deal with, eg Blue Mud Bay, mining damage, mining plans, growing fishing pressure etc.
If you would like to see things done differently then perhaps tell them direct, although no doubt they read it here.

I assume since there is a regular AFANT propoganda update on here they read it.
Unless they do a Ronje and not be my friend or whatever else goes on

No sharks, what!?
Nothing better than a good sized whaler grabbing your fish as you are about to bring it in the boat.
Makes you move and try other places and find new better spots

If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!
Especially when you can see them!

Just Spanish flag, they release well. Biggest stripey wins Nathan! Honestly wouldn't have a clue as I have no interest in these comps.NathanL wrote:serious question - what are the target species now?

Barramundi, cobia, dolphin fish, macks, queenies, marlin, sails, blue salmon, threadfin salmon, tuna, trevally
Lots of species that I personally don't target purely as a fish eater
We will be fishing the comp days this year but not entering $375 puts a dent in the fuel bill for the weekend
Plus we will still catch what we would have weighed in and not have to target other species purely for extra points
