Arnhem Land Fun...

Post by BarneyRubble »

Hey all, decided to venture out a bit instead of the usual South Alligator or East. Called a couple mates up and asked if they wanted to go somewhere a little more secluded and try out luck on some reefs and pelagics.

The fellas headed out to Jabiru after the show at Noony on the Thursday so we could take off early Friday morn. Alarm was set for 4am but due to a sore head and some tired travellers it wasnt till 8 we managed to pile everything in and head to the bakery.
I had never been to this 'secluded' spot but heard of some wicked stories of massive Tuna schools, Coral Trout, GT's, Queenies, Macks and Jew so we hit the road, crossed Cahills and set off into Arnhem Land. If no one has ever been there its a MUST! Very beautiful spot!

So made the turn at '3ways' to head towards coburg/willigi and the eyes were peeled for our turn-off. It was warned that there are two turns that look the same and one will lead off into wild.... it turns out we took it..... After an hour travelling up hills across creeks over rocks it was decided we took the wrong turn. 2hrs down on what was suppose to be a 2hr trip we headed back off on the road and made the turn.
Seen i busted my front roller on the previous track i couldnt be bothered going slow.... We made it!

Turns out to be a beautiful little spot, only massive turn off was the rubish everywhere from previous visitors....
The boat was launched pretty much as soon as the car was unpacked and the boat was launched and off to a couple of points from the blokes from work. Trawled out the river, picked up a nice little school Mack and a Barracuda First drop of some bait (i was using jerk shads and not catching anything) produced some nice GT's and we all got excited...

As for nearly everyone else in the NT the weather wasnt the best for the whole trip with some big swells but normally can snap a nice sunset up here...

Second day came and we headed out to some more points i managed to get, which turned out pretty good again all smashed from GT's a baitcaster broken and a spin rod down. First trawl brought in a nice mtr Mackie on the Veritas Barra combo...

More GT's, double hook ups (broken rod)...

As it started getting a little rough we decided to hide a little and throw some bait down again which gave us some nice reefies..

So was a pretty good trip all in all, a nice size sweetlip was caught and another cuda...

Will be definately going back for another poke around hopefully we will get some kinder weather and take a drone out for some more pics...
Cheers all and tight-lines

ugly looking cuda!! even for their standards ;) becomes a game of luck when planning trips that far away and guessing about the wind. looks like you'll go even better if the weather goes on your side next time

Nice work Barney, looks like fun mate.
Where do you camp?, is it a designated area or can you pull up where you want?

Pretty much just pick your own spot mate wasnt much shade out there and all the shadyish spots were taken, obviously need to get a permit from NLC which normally just takes the day for the permit, but other than that wherever the swag gets thrown out of the boat is where we set up.
