Minn kota riptide 42lb

Post by bundymal »

Hi

Just wondering if anyone knows how to pull the center casing off my riptide saltwater series 42lb thrust.I need to put the armature back in but there's 2 bushes that need to be held apart so armature will go back in .

Hey Mal,
the centre casing should just come apart when the end cap and screws are removed. Make sure that you put an alignment mark on the outer casing so that it goes back on the same way.

As for holding the brushes apart, sometimes there is a cardboard circle that you will find just behind the brushes. This is used in the factory to install the armature into the brush assembly.

1. hold the brushes apart inside their assembly.
2. insert the cardboard circle inside the brushes
3. put outer casing over the brush assembly (making sure that it is in the same alignment as original or the motor will turn backwards)
4. gently insert the armature into the outer casing making sure that you have a firm hold so that the magnets dont drag it into the tube too quickly.
5. as the armature enters the brush assembly it will push the cardboard circle to the rear and let the brushes seat on the commutator bar.
6. Install end cap and secure with long screws

If you are out Howard Springs way I can give you a hand. Send us a PM if you need help.

Cheers

Warren

Give it a tap with a rubber mallett or if you dont have one of them hold a bit of wood against the side of the casing and hit the wood with a hammer. I have seen this before where there is a bit of corrosion that holds it in.
