Charnley Barra on Fly

Post by john will »

Hey everyone - I am new to this site. Awesome info here. Thank you.
I've been into the Charnley river four times - at Walcott Inlet in the Kimberley - and have caught plenty of Barra on the fly. Mostly casting to sighted fish. Here's a pic of one from my last trip - I have never measured them - so I don't know how big they are - seem big to me though (an amateur)
Best wishes all

Well done John looks looks awsome up there. I am yet to try fly fishing, but would love to try it. Plenty of spots to fly fish around the Kimberley!

Hey Boof Dog - the barrra seem to love a fly - so natural in the water. It's just another delivery system ... but a load of fun. if you get the chance - get to the Charnley rock bar - provided the tides ar less than 10 meters - the water on the first clear lagoon remains crystal clear and you can sight fish those barra. ten metre plus tides dirty things up a lot - so then it's blind fishing. I like the sight fishing style. Best wishes: john

Ok John, I'll put the Charnley on the list of must go places in the Kimberley (that list is getting big!). Can you drive to it or is it by boat?

Just checking out the maps. Got my bearings now, it flows into Walcott. Been to the mouth of the Walcott (Collier bay) years ago but didn't go very far into it.
The Isdell is another river that would be worth a look!!!
