SWA advice

Post by Jackh »

Gday, im heading to Salt Water Arm on Wednesday the 21st. Ive been up here for 4 years and never fished it. Looking for Barra and i was thinking of doing some trolling near the narrows as per the fish finder book around the top of the high and then heading into one of the wiltshires or up above the SWA boat ramp for the dropping tide. Whats everyones thoughts, im not after your secret spots, just a few tips haha
Cheers

Sounds good to me...not a lot of tidal movement though which might put the brakes on the barra. Just be careful of the rockbar above and below the boat ramp, if you decided to head upstream of the boatramp on the dropping tide you will have to wait a bit until you can pull your boat out

Another option is to try the coastal creeks around cape hotham on those type of tides, good crabbing too

Thanks Tristan, yeah going to try and get out there around 8am, then fish till 4ish or 5. I wont go upstream if that's the case of getting locked in, ill just head over to the wiltshires. Low tide is at 6.30 at night so hopefully that gives me enough time to get over the lower rockbar.

Take it slow over the rock bar. I hang to the right on the way out. 2.5m is cutting it very close and I drift over with a foot under me.

Ummm, the channel is dead in the middle until you get 70m-100m down then cross to the right side a bit. On tides bigger than 2.7m you wont have to worry too much but take it slow any way.

Right near the ramp it's down the middle. Sorry I was talking further towards the bend. I haven't sounded for any other channel just stick with what I was shown..

But yes right near the ramp stick to the middle or just left of
