Advice SWA

Post by RedDevil »

Hi all,
Its been a while between posts!
Planning to take the kids out to SWA for a crab this coming weekend.
I was wondering if there are any little creeks or spots someone could share where the kids could drop a line and catch a few fish while soaking the pots? Not after barra spots or anything, just something to keep the kids interested.
Tides are too big to try the usual spots in Adelaide mouth.
Cheers

Bream, snapper, jacks, salmon to be caught on bait on the rock patches just upstream from the boat ramp if you can find a spot out of the current, incoming tide. Might be the simplest trip for the kids.

Or if travelling, the mouth of 'Chad's Creek' at the base of Cape Hotham is a good one, blue salmon on incoming tide just inside creek, and barra and threadies at the mouth on the runout tide. Mouth will dry on those arvo lows, Saturday would be better. Could drop pots for the incoming then fish the mouth on the outgoing.

:bonk: Wasn't great on the crabbing front. 6 crabs all up with 3 quite soft so they went back in. Kids caught a few little snappers and brim which kept them happy so thanks for the tip Matt!
I've now been told not to bother crabbing when there is a full moon?
I've never paid any attention to the moon, which explains why I don't catch much fish or crabs :bonk:

Good news re fish. I've caught plenty of crabs on big tides by pushing the pots up a creek with the incoming water. I reckon the crabs push in with the early tide to get first dibs on whatever food is around. Just a theory. Not saying it's a good time for crabbing, but it can be done.
