King Ash Bay Easter 2014

Post by Norm C »

Anybody heading for King Ash Bay for the Easter Classic this year?
With Easter being later in April this year, the weather and road conditions should be pretty good.
From all reports this years comp is going to be a good one.

im tempted to take the old man when he flies up and my son to the easter classic,

there isnt alot of info atm for the comp, has any1 got any info relating to:

- registration on the comp (fees, times of draws etc) - the ol' toyota classic on fraser island had 6pm draws which wasnt ideal for fishing just on dark.
- general rules, do you weigh in 1 fish per species per day? can u register for reef AND river for 1 fee or is it just pick 1.
- junior rules (ages etc, my son would probably like to give it a fair crack if there was a sub juniors etc)
- the atmosphere of the comp? is it friendly more of a casual atmosphere? or full on serious people out just for prizes.

Hello Mickxx,
I can answer most of your questions.
Registration fee is $35 for adults and $15 for juniors. Registrations can be taken right up to Friday Evening.
All occupants of a comp boat must be registered
One fee covers both categories (Estuary and Reef). you can weigh in fish for both categories. Theoretically, one person could win champion angler in both categories.
7 species in each category
Prize for heaviest fish in each category
Prize for a 'mystery weight' fish in each category. Can not be won by same person who won heaviest fish
Only one fish per species can be weighed in for the comp per entrant.
It is very much a fun comp. This is the reason there are so many prizes - to spread the love. All you have to do is weigh in a fish to be in the running for many prizes.

Entertainment at bar on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening.
Presentations Sunday Evening

Full rules and information will be posted on the club web site within a couple of weeks.

Total prizes and give aways across the week end will likely exceed $40,000 in value, including over $20,000 in cash. Final value will depend on sponsors, but very positive so far.

Hope this answers your key questions for the moment.

Its a bit wet down that way today the McArthur River is in flood which should help the fishing around Easter. My work mate sent this through this morning from Borroloola.

Yes, river has flooded up over the high level bridge at Borroloola 3 times so far this season, but has dropped now.
Best wet for a few years and should make the fishing and crabbing even better than usual.
