Re: proposed bag limit changes
mako the traps dont keep catching and killing fish at all. if the traps are left for extending lengths of time 95% of the fish escape. and in the timor box on the full moon they dont leave baited traps over night due to the sea lice out there. they will strip a fish if its flesh in a few hrs according to the deckies. i would be more concerned about the fish trawlers. they are fishing waters more accessible to rec fishos then the trap fisherman are.

No worries mick_c, just going on what someone else siaid. There was a study on trawling as a method of catching reefish and the results were shocking, huge quantities of reefish were able to be harvested in a very short time.

Re: proposed bag limit changes
The super trawler situation sucks.
As for the fish traps I can tell you that the traps have a small pin in the door hinge that is like a sacrificial anode. If the trap is lost the pin will desolve with in two weeks or so and the gate will fall of so they prevent killing more fish. This is a situation I believe that has been taken care of by fisheries already. A lot of fish will also swim in and out of a trap given time. The sea lice situation is also true. they can be that bad that there are times and places that it is a waste of time setting traps because they destroy all the baits and sometimes trapped fish.
