Structure scan settings

Post by Barramunday2Sunday »

Hello all..... Just seeing if any body is able to help with the settings for the structure scan and the sounder as well. I have a hds 10 gen 1 and cant put up with you tube and the yanks any more.. Much appreciated. Or better yet come around and tune it for a six pack.

Dunno with these HDS thing’s.. I can’t figure ‘em out either, some other smart cookies on here have though..
All I know, with my old humminbird I press the power button and my side imaging works great every time! :jester:

Might be time for an upgrade though mines a bit small for my aging eyesight.

It's easy, just think of it as holding a torch at something and interpreting the shadow rather than the thing you're looking at.......
Here's a couple of things that may help, they're corning yank stuff but not bad.
Nothing beats practise, I take hundreds of images each time I go out and then go through them on the computer, you'll get the hang of it soon enough.

:applause: hhahaha, I'm the same, turn on my bird, no issues....easy to use, which I why i chose the bird. My mate has a gen 1 HDS, and its a great unit to. But he spends a fair bit of time "playing" with it when we go in his boat.
From what i understand, the Lowrance units are better, you get better images for sure. But the Humminbirds are WAY easier to use.

Once you get setting right i only play with the sensitivity depending on water depth a clarity.

Pretty much the same as blinky though a little less sensitivity i use the blue pallet so may be different.
i have noise rejection off.

Hey guys like a few of the boys above I have just installed one (HDS with side scan) and with side scan it looks just like simulator mode, I have 2 questions which the answers may or not help me :

1/ Are we seeing only structure (ie bottom, reef, logs, etc) on the HDS side scan or also fish.

2/ when I go past a tree in the water 2-3m deep 10m from bank, 2-3 m from boat I don't see anything which surprises me.

any help greatly appreciated

cheers Craig

Should see most things in the beam.

Hope this helps (some are older shots when just starting)

1. Bait schools fish to the right
2. Fish seen clearly (these were barra)
3. Bottom structure (wreck )
