Alright I need some help. Moonman and myself are heading down to Dundee Thurs/Fri/Sat and heading out to Long Lost/Sail area. Fished it a heap of times and always been successful. But I have never caught a Red Emperor let alone even seen one. I need some help finding some. I have read that they like a more rubble type of bottom rather than rugged reef? Are they also a more common catch when using fresh strip bait such as Tuna, like Trout are? What about water depths, should I be looking for some deeper spots?
Thanks for your help.
Cheers
Jason

Gday Jason
Wondering whether you found out any answers to your emperor questions - I too have not had any success with reds although Ive only been fishin out wide for a year or so since I got a bigger boat.
I too would appreciate any tips anyone is prepared to share....

If we all focussed on the important things in life there would always be a long queue at the ramp!

the reds
i always tend to go down to east point on a low tide the day before my dundee trips to get some tiny crabs... i mean think about it, just like rock cods and parrot fish reds seem to spew up lil bits of crab. iv cought a big red with that method just look at my pictures.

Ghost crabs
When fishing for Reds at Groote, I used to go out on the beach the night before with half a dozen buckets and some fish frames.
Bury the bucket so the top is level with the sand and drop in your fish frame, the crabs catch themselves.
Reds love them.............

Re: Ghost crabs
Talk to a mad fisho at the pub in groote a few weeks back, all they use these days is snap backs for mixed reef they love them apparently, same bloke who told me they lifted 17 bills in one day, those guys sure have it good down therehogster wrote:When fishing for Reds at Groote, I used to go out on the beach the night before with half a dozen buckets and some fish frames.
