Trailer coupleings

Post by River Rat »

I was called out a few weeks back to a trailer rollover up near the Lynd Junction a couple of hr's North from Townsville. Some people are pretty good with maintenence on their trailers but please don't forget to check the coupling for damage.I'd hate to see someones boat & trailer in this situation.
Apparently the cup on the hitch let go and over it went, luckilly it didn't take the car with it.

Was that photo of the coupling taken just after the incident or a bit later.
If it was soon after the rust means it was already badly cracked.
Smile, be happy & go fishing.

Work is getting in the way of my fishing.

I will soon fix both of our problems by quitting.

From what the property owner told me it had been sitting there for a few days while the owner was organizing a hire trailer to continue on his way. It was dragged by a tractor and placed on his farm till arrangements could be made for another trailer & some minor repairs done on the car.
The drawbar /axles and chassis were all bent.

Looks like a fairly large crack propagated from the front edge of the hitch, more than likely caused by giving it a fair smack with the tow bar when reversing down on to it.

Must have been something like that, you would hope that they dont break with ordinary use.

A bummer of a way to start (or finish) a fishing expedition. :bricks: :bricks:

Have seen a couple of the imported ones doing similar things up here. It seems the quality control on the castings is a little erratic.
