Boat prep, storage for a month

Post by Silver Sovereign »

Got another repreive from heading back to work last night due to no seats on the plane:grin:
I have at least another week so I need to get the boat ready again...damnit Ive only had seven weeks  2 extra off due to their bad admin

Any how I have a few questions regarding storage,
I usually give the boat/trailer a good lengthy wash after use, flush the motor with clean water and run the carb dry.diconnect/remove the sounder battery and charge it. Open the hatches and let it dry off ,cover boat with a tarp and leave in a shady spot.

I read on this site its best to leave the fuel tank full to prevent condensation forming.( do I leave the breather vent open or closed ? If I leave the fuel for a month will the oil drop out or the fuel go bad. I dont want to dump 20 odd litres every time I get home especially with the cost of it. Would I be better draining and diconnecting the tank and leave the cap off ?

How often should I repack the wheel bearings, I only have those s@#ty plastic caps on em, should i get better bearings?

Cheers in anticipation

I reckon what you are doing is ample, as for the fuel I wouldn't worry about it going bad etc in a month, leave it full and unless its going to get real hot I'd leave the breather closed.
I check the wheel bearings every six months or so tighten them up and only re pack them or replace them if they need it. eg rusty, rumbly or if the grease has had water in it.

Cheers Flicker.
you don't know if you don't give it a go
