Channel Point Carnage.. and a magic-carpet ride.
Well, I was originally gunna hang onto this one as a potential story for the fff mag, but inevitably kept missing the due-date, like a bad father..ha ha.
After months of meticulous planning and logistical workings, it was time for the annual Channel Point Trip, and has been a 5 year tradition, compliments of one of the founding Fathers, Fishunter81. Months in advance, the sites were accounted for, booked eventually, and potential attendants were either praised for their keen-ness, or shunned like lepers for their lack of involvement and enthusiasm.
Finally, 3 motley crews had been assembled.. The Armada consisting of: The Salty Seamen, The Peacocks of the Carribean, and the Muk Muk Green Ants..
The Green Ants rendezvous with the Peacocks of the Carribean took place at the Berry Springs hardware store, where final preparations were being put in place on the Peacock Man o' war, namely some Sikaflex being applied to a few mid-sized injuries to the hull..
The road to Channel Point was smooth as, and running well, right up until we pulled up to gather some tools and other things that had carelessly come adrift from some suckers ute..only to discover that yes.....the trailer still pulls along nicely....with only 3 wheels attached. Unbeknownst to all that were there, the entire wheel, tyre, had goooone....not a bump heard, all wheelnuts gone....v strange indeed..
After replacing the wheel, we continued on our merry way. Along the way, finding an esky, and several more tools carelessly void of the Vehicle they had been in. Arriving in camp, with enough time to setup camp, complete with the generator, fairy lights, emu-pourer bar setup, and the pride of the Solomon Carpet Empire set up on the ground in camp, we had a quick fish, and quickly produced.
That evening, around the hum of the Genny, the whirring of the bugs in the air, and the ambience of the Fairy lights, many tales were told, upon the Magic Carpet, with hopes high for an epic weekend of pillaging the Seas.....(well, maybe just the sea, singular.)
What ensued over the next few days was nothing short of pure fishing carnage/bliss.. However you want to take it...
It had it all, snapper, sharks, shark-victims, bluebone, jewfish, trout, and the mighty beast of the deep, a creature so fierce looking that Posieson himself cast it out, for fear it was a demon hell-spawn of the worst kind.....the mighty Cod.......
A honesty points system was in place, with certain species allocated point values, from the lowly pigeon of the sea, the tricky snapper valued at 25 points, to sailfish, at a value of 1,000,000 points.. Teams were encouraged to provide photographic evidence if possible, to vouch for scores at days end..
The trip, as usual, was a great one, and a great time had by all. Before posting all the pictures from the trip, just wanted to say a big thanks to Parka and Wildlife who let us book the 3 campsites, and have let us do so for the last 5 years. And to the lads for Cleaning up after themselves after the trip.
And a big thankyou to Fishunter81, who is the anchor for this trip, always planning it to a T.
Drink up me hearties, yo ho!!
