East alligator ramp

Post by Tanman »

Hi,

I Was wanting to fish the east alligator downstream of Cahills over the weekend.
Does anybody know how high a tide you need at the crossing to launch on the downstream side?
And how high a tide you need to get over the rockbar 1.8km downstream of the ramp?
Was planning on heading down to magela, will be my first time in the area, so any tips appreciated.
Any good on these big spring tides?

Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert, but I launched on dead low there in 6th may. Low tide in Darwin was 3.05m. Got through the rockbar by sticking to the Eastern bank but I probably wouldn't do it again. It was white water rapids across the river.

Thanks bjobrien.
Might give the east a miss then.

Might go to the south alligator instead and head upstream.
Do you know how much water is needed to launch at the south alligator?

Cheers,
Mat

We went there the next day actually, put in at high tide and had no dramas getting out at around 1 hour after low tide.

South would be good for Sunday I reckon. Low tide at 0600, high 1230.
