Found this on the sand beside a little estuarine pond yesterday.
Saw what looked like a "bone moustache" on the head and thought is was missus but then realised that the fish only had the "bone moustache" on the upper lip/jawline while missus has her moustache bone through her nose.
So, not her although fish did have its mouth open so some similarity. Just as ugly too.
This thing is about 1 metre long (skeleton is anyway) and my first thought on seeing the bone moustache was some sort of bullrout or "devil fish' as we call 'em but I've never seen one that big.
Then thought it was flathead skeleton but really not sure.
Any ideas?
What's this?
