Re: Hunt them: It's your duty

When I was a kid (late 60's early 70's) I lived with my grandfather on a farm in the Gippsland region.

At 6yrs old I used to take my Slazenger .22 out hunting rabbits and cats to skin and sell the pelts to Akubra. I dont know what we got paid for the pelts, probably not much.

We had heaps of feral cats around the dams so at times I would just shoot them, too lazy to hunt the rabbits.

We used to eat rabbit just about all the time. I remember saying to my grandfather (who was a Ukrainian survivor of the war camps, and told me stories of living on cockroaches for a while) "grandad, if I have only been shooting cats who is shooting the rabbits for dinner?"

My grandfather looked a bit meek and scratched around for an answer. I think i had enough sense to realise what was going on, so didnt push the matter.

We had chicken for a few days then went back to 'rabbit' again. I stopped being lazy and made sure I shot a few for dinner.....

Shoot more cats.. they taste a bit like rabbit....
