Walkers fjord finiss river area

Post by goldfish »

Headed out on the weekend for a crack at the barra at the finiss r walkers fjord only got 4 but they were up to 96cm on big B52s
Saw a track heading down the river about 2min south of the crossing checked google and you can get to a few feeder lagoons and a couple of feeder cks off this track too.

Heres a pic of the track start point heading off down the river it has a small creek to drive across in the first 100m if you can get through this the rest of the track is a piece of cake running on the outside of the boundary fences of the stations.

Saw a few pigs on the drive out too one ginger spotted boar was 100kg no worries n you could see his hooks from the car.

Get a good quad mate they're nearly unstoppable n way easier to get through most of the tricky spots out that way than a buggy when it hits the fan .
If you bog a buggy properly youll need another one to get to it and pull it out unless you're carrying a good recovery kit.
Watch out for big washouts in the high grass if you intend to make a new track walk it first ... or learn the hard way

That's great mate, but I think I might give it a look during the dry as getting bog now tends to give me nightmares.

Get a real car mate if u are getting bogged already. you can run 35s on a hilux n 38 s on a cruiser muddies are the go on blacksoil.

KM2 bfs
Simex centipede
Mickey Thomson baja claws

Are all good tyres I've used them all and they all perfom well. A well setup vehicle is no substute for a skillful driver though and can get stuck still.
Momentum n line selection will get u through most stuff with roadies but u need traction if its a long section of it .

I figure you only get properly bogged in mud so i bought the good tyres. No point saving a few bucks then spending hours getting pulled out so u can get a few thousand more km out of your rubber. I've been bogged in mates cars for hours on sections I have been in 2wd for ..

Good luck fellas

The first big rains in nov /dec bring the barra up to the rapids n we have got a few over the magic 1m mark from here off "waynes fishing rock" and a bit further down when it first rises and isn't super clear on big green back silver bombers.

Quad is the go these days out there.

Watch out for big crocs in the whole section

a lot of that area goes underwater ....this is just a tiddler freshie you hardly see the 4m ones but youll see their slide on the creek mouth about 10m below the rapids.

Copytime in the city sells topographic maps for $10 each sweets lagoon I think is the one that covers that area.

Then print a bit out of Google maps on satellite view too.

Or get a decent smartphone and a long range antenna n turn yr location on. Is easier but relys on the tech side too much for my liking.
