G'day
I've got a few hours to kill in Gove tomorrow. Can anyone recommend some land based fishing spots?

airport is a long way from the beach.
but anywhere you find sand and water there will be fish.
plenty of places the town is just about surrounded by the ocean.
buff creek, east woody island, the hot water outlet, cape wirrawoi.
endless places around the town, not so much near the airport.

Wuz a place called the bauxite shelf that was awesome, drops off sharply into nice water - you would need a 4WD to get out there tho. Dunno what the latest rules are re access to that particular spot re local land council.
Many other spots, but that one was a good one.

The sand spit. go under the small wharf and follow to the end.
Have caught good Spaniards, queenies and tuna off the end there on huge poppers.
But generally anywhere there is water is worth a flick, Gove is full of fish.
Caught a barra then a coral trout in 2 consecutive casts at the causeway just past the yacht club on a gold bomber.
Ridiculous fishing

with this wind youll behaving a hard time but id suggest going to Wirrawoi beach and fishing the incoming tide from the rock point trying to cast into the big gutter just out from there with 85-125mm poppers or silver slices. wind should be coming from behind your shoulder when fishing from there.
good luck and hope you get something
