Hit lee point mon morning to try and get some gars for sail baits .
Launched just after 7 from nightcliff and had a quick trawl over the reef when we first got there saw a few bustups but nothing on the lures.
Anchord in 4m of water just next to the tip of the outer reef and burleyed up.
The gars were there pretty quickley and took no time to get a couple dozen.
Put out a few lives as small macks were going nuts all around the boat.
Decided to move 20m or so to the other side of the reef and imediatley hooked and lost a masive spanish .
Started belting out a small green raider slug and straight away started to get heaps of small shark macks.
Must have got over a dozen on the lure, great fun.
My fishing mate landed a medium sized trev followed by a nice spanish mack on gar.
He then followed that up with a solid little cod.
Alll this action was on the top of the tide.
By 11 the wind was blowing pretty hard so decided to leave them biting and head back to the ramp.
Home and cleaned up by 12,
Not a bad session concidering we went to get some bait.

I use a light rod with 3kg mono and a size 10 or 12 hook;2 brothers fishing wrote:Hey mate how do you catch the garfish? was thinking about going there friday
Just start a berley trail with bread and tuna oil in a burley pot
Put a small bit of squid on the hook and drop it in the school in the burley trail.
Its like tuna polling just lighter .
Used my 6 weight fly rod last year for something different and had a ball
Try and not over feed them with burley or they go off the bite.
You can also get them from the rocks at east point but will need a small float to cast with.
