Four Mile on Friday the 13th

Post by dannett »

I am planning an overnight trip to Four Mile on Friday the 13th and coming back on the Saturday afternoon.

I only have the crewman ute and I am confident I will get in there but no so confident that I will be able to retrieve the boat at the end of the trip. Hauling Barra-mundi 2 Sundi over the bank will be a big ask and I doubt I will get the traction required to do it.

So I am looking to see if anyone is doing a similar trip with a 4wd who could lend a hand if it’s required or possibly a deckie that has a 4wd to tow the boat.

If you’re interested in doing a trip let me know.

DANNETT your a game man my friend. Friday 13, Sat 14 and Sun 15 is the 2013 Annual Broads Barra Bash all female competition. 25 teams will be verging on 4 mile hole so approx 75 women + support and organisers. The place will be packed. The competition is professionally organised by the Palmerston Game Fishing Club.
PS Very nice boat mate, and there will be over 30 4WD's there.

Well the 4wd component will be covered then! But I don't really want to hang out with 30 other boats.

Mate that track isn't good for cars without clearance, im not sure what the water levels like at the first crossing, and the ramp is a bank launch can be very muddy.

Cheers Ben Jam, that's why I am chasing a buddy. I have been out there a few times but not for about ten years and I don't recall anything too bad about the road. There was never any water in the crossings back then, maybe that has changed now?

The bank launch and mire so retrieve is going to be a problem. If there is a friendly 4wd owner there I can unhitch and retrieve with their vehicle.

I'll be keen to get a report from you guys.

I have managed to borrow a mates 4wd so I will keep to my original plan fishing early Friday morning, a with a night fish. I'll sleep in the boat and pull out around midday on Saturday when I have had enough of the crowds.

Mate, plans to fish at night sound good and often trolling up the middle out there works at night. If your sleeping in the boat however..... Mate, I hope the sides on your boat are higher than they appear because the croc's out there are nearly stacked on top of each other!! (Hence the rules in relation to camping back from the water) ps- white drop bear rubberies and little lucifers, cheers

All good, I have slept in her a few times now, at the Daily and in Sampan (rather forget that night, rained from 10pm to 6am). I may end up sleeping in the back of the ute or set up the tent. Time and mood will tell.

I have timed my trip around the moon hence why I don't want to abort it. Saturday night will probably be better but I have to be back in town on Sunday.

Cheers 2 brothers. Can't be much quieter than my trip into Shoal Bay this weekend.

How was the water temperature and is there many lilies and weed about?
