Has anyone got any experience with the cheap clay target throwers being offered by the gun shops in town, pretty simple spring loaded device that can be strapped to a spare wheel or pegged into the ground, they sell for around $75?
I was thinking of picking one up in preparation for the goose season, might even be good to have a FFF target shooting session.

Dont know the brand but sounds like the same pricipal as the ones we used a couple of years back on a station at the Victoria River. They seem good enough for a bit of practice and at 75 cookies you cant really go wrong.

Re: Cheap Clay Target Throwers
Yeah I had a $50 version a few years ago. It was a bit erratic in height and distance at times but hey, no one should be standing in front of that succer anyway, especially when I had hold of the shottie. My kids loved that machine and slays are pretty sheap. So were saucers from Salvation army but they werent much fun to walk on or clean up.
They are easy to attach to a boat two holes in the bow and a couple of bolts and all was good, the boat at that time had a fair sized bow settup for an electric and anchor welll. Only problem on a boat is waves and safe direction . But a lot of fun on quiet trips.
They become a PITA if you have to load that spring a lot to get your mates a few shots but if everyone has a turn... But I would borrow from BB
Send an invite if there is a shoot, Im always good for a laugh in that environment....

Re: Cheap Clay Target Throwers
Sorry GLP, missed your post ... I mounted it on the front deck of my boat, which was almost at gunwhale level, using stainless bolts with wingnuts. There were three mount holes but I found you could get by fine with just one or two bolts in.
It was lame because it didn't throw the clays in a challenging way - it was slow and every time the same direction. But for $50 or so who is complaining. Perhaps I should have used it in a metre swell ...
The boxed clays don't like bouncing along in the rough by the way, don't ask me how I know this
Probably a good way to get some "boat etiquette" happening ... drag it all out and start shooting clays when old mate anchors next to you.
