It's been a while since my last post so I thought I would tell you about my trip down the Lower Ord river last Sunday.
Set off early with my mate Benny Backhoe.
We picked up some live bait just out of town, so that took the pressure off straight away, freeing us up to head straight down to Collins Creek.
We were planning to meet the high tide there at about 7am and sure enough the tide arrived just as we anchored up in the mouth of Collins Creek (I love it when a plan comes together). Now all we had to do was hope the fish were in on the plan.
They were, and we had a great little live bait session, with double hookups, bust offs, double net jobs and all other instances of chaos that make a hot bite the thing that gets us all hooked on Barra fishing. Awesome!! We ended up boating 8 Barra, all of which were in the high 50s to low 70s. Prime yellow tailed fish in really good condition for this time of year. We lost about the same amount of fish as we boated (as you do when you are fishing for Barra) and kept the maximum limit of one fish each.

I think the 1 per person rule is a good thing, especially on days like that when it would be too easy to take more than you need, not a good idea for sustainability. Interestingly, the amount of mullet pushing up the river was amazing. I am attributing this to the early rains we have been enjoying this November. This would probably account for the fine condition of the Barra as well. really fat, healthy fish.
I have put up some photos of the fish and of a waterfall called Black Rock falls. This capped of the day when we called in there for a swim and a cold one on the way home. I am often asked why I would live in a place like Kununurra. After days like these, why would you want to live anywhere else. It still blows my mind after a dozen years.

Looks like being another ripper season for Barra, tight lines everybody.

Cheers, Dazza. PS - appologies for the pictures not being in order, still working this stuff out. You get the idea though.
