Sail City
Left the dundee boat ramp at sparrows fart on sunday. cruised straight down to point blaze and landed some nice goldies a jewie and a salmon in the first 25mins. the fish were on the bight for about and hour and then nothing for the next hour. with the ocean starting to look like a sheet of glass we decided to up anchor and head out to sail city. we droped anchor and had a bash resulting in some nice trickies and more goldies. with an hours to go before the bottom of the tide i decided to have a quick troll for some macks and do a bit of bottom surveying as we go. my brand new halco laser pro 3.5m was in the water for no more then 20 seconds when we heard that beautiful sound of a drag going flat out zzzzzzz. half way to the boat a shark decided that he wanted to share my fish and who am i to argue. we continued to troll untill the tide turned landing another 2. then we had a final bash at the bottom. so while we were all dropping down i floated a pilly out the back on a ballon. no more then 60 seconds later zzzzzzzzz (god i love that sound). with 4 people in the boat we all took turns at pulling in these beauties, the biggest measuring 1.3m and was tagged. 3 hrs after the tide turned the bottom really fired up with reds, goldies, trickies, blue tooth and coral trout and the ocean was still perfect. so we had to make a decission to leave one of the hottest bites i have ever been on so we make sure we get back in time for the tractor to pull us out or take our chances that the cruiser would save the day. we took a vote and as i was the skipper my vote overruled the rest and needless to say the cruiser needed a extra good wash when we got home!!

yeah why knot?(pardon the pun) use them on macks!
I tie a small loop in 50pound braid using a spiderhitch. then loop it through the loop of the treble and pull it tight. then using a series of half hitches, half blood knots(what ever you can come up with, and lots of swearing because the hooks dig into your fingers) i tie it onto the lure. The idea is to keep the distance from the treble to the lure body short so it doesn't tangle. Mind you if your only trolling and not casting you'd get away with 2 split rings joined together. maybe leaving the middle treble off the the lure?
what made a difference with bigger fish is 4x strong Owner brand trebles. nothing bends those suckers.
you could also use normal suicide hooks on your mack lures. haven't field tested it much though. But goddamn your lures got flogged big time!!
