BarraMick I have had the Garmin GPS 76 for about 6 years and cannot fault it. It is considered to be a "marine" GPS and is waterproof and FLOATS (tested). This as you can imagine is a bonus to have in a GPS residing on a boat. I have also had it countless number of times mounted on my quad through rough terrain with zero problems. Quick satellite acquisition and nice simple menu are bonus. Garmin in my opinion makes the best hand held GPS units.
I also have the Etrex for land/hunting use. Again another great unit, compact, moderately priced and accurate. Plenty of accessories can be obtained for these units too.

Have to agree on the garmin. Just make sure you get
One with up to date land maps. I have used a few without land maps and they are hard to get a bearing as to where you actually are.

I have a Garmin GPSMAP 276C, not sure if they are still available, you can get them off Ebay. Best GPS I've ever had. You can download "Shonky Maps" which will give you full topo map for free.

Be careful with some Magellan units. Ive had several over the years and they are great but the latest one cant be ‘user updated’ . you have to send the sd card back to them to do it. Very annoying.

Solely for the purpose of fishing. (mapping rockbars, locations of caught fish. etc,)
price not an issue.
If price is not an issue, get a proper full size GPS... i have a hand held Garmin touch screen with ocean maps etc. I have it clipped under my depth sounder, gives me the s...ts when the screen decides to timeout all the time. If you don't need it to be portable.. Id spend the $500-600 that a decent hand held costs and buy a unit with a 7inch screen.
