Re: Midge help !!
Bushman is the go, they tend to eat all those witch doctor potions.
Did an experiment some years ago, 4 blokes, Bushman, Aeroguard, Rid and some snake oil potion made from eucalyptus oil etc.
We camped in a bad area near a swamp and got swamped by all manner of nasties.
The end result was Bushman worked, Aeroguard and Rid had a minor effect and the witch doctor potion was a complete waste of money.
These days I use Bushman or Off if not in too bad an area.

Bushmans can take permanent marker off walls, no way any insect would eat that I reckon, not real sure how good it would be for you though...

I recommend 'Off'. Use the one in the aerosol can - they sell it in Coles. The pump action stuff is not as good.
Tea tree oil can be good to apply to bites.
Bushman's is pretty strong stuff and personally I avoid it in most instances.

Wear long pants and socks. Thats what i do on my overnighter trips. You will look like a dork but better than being the itchy guy with the big red bite marks.

Buy a Thermocell
i find they work as well on sandflys as they do on Mozzies. Always have one on when my son is in the boat and it works a treat.

recent trip to the gulf we had a few days of bad insect behaviour unless it was really insane with bugs we used the aeroguard as it wasn't as noxious when you sprayed it on your face also found that the bushmans after a few applications would start to leave a sticky residue that the made dust stick to you of course showering a bit more would solve that problem

I use Bushmans but I try to stay covered up as much as possible, saves you from the sun and the little critters.

Re: Midge help !!
What brand of thermocel do you use? I ask because I use the raid one and although they work a treat on the mozzies, I absolutly got smashed by the sandflies when I was at the roper with them. I have also tried the Mortein one and that wasnt much better. I must say that the sandflies were that thick that you could wipe them off by the hand full but the sprays did have a lot better affect. Interested if you use a different brand that works better than the ones I use.ghound wrote:Buy a Thermocell
