Re: Crackers 60hp PNG adventure begins
The CrackerTracker showed Crackers was stuck at the Hole in the Wall for four days while that high pressure system was blowing. He was moored in the same spot the whole time, probably conserving resources until the wind dropped, but the fact the boat had not moved was a bit of a worry ...
He is now moving south towards the next set of islands, as he heads to Nhulunbuy. Probably one of the more difficult legs of his trip.

Re: Crackers 60hp PNG adventure begins
Crackers is now arriving in Nhulunbuy after facing horrendous seas after leaving the Hole In Wall.
He said it was the worst sea he had experienced, with whirlpools and rips, but the boat handled it well. Unfortunately he did not get a chance to fish because the four days at the Hole in Wall were completely blown out. Instead he socialised on a 48-foot yacht that was also moored there, and went exploring.
And there are croocdile and crayfish adventures to tell.
First fully detailed instalment will be in the Nov NTMAG

Re: Crackers 60hp PNG adventure begins
He is heading to Groote from Nhulunbuy shortly, if he hasn't left already, waiting for a break in the weather ... these are exposed waters in south-easters, expected to be the toughest part of his trip.

Re: Crackers 60hp PNG adventure begins
Crackers has called in from off Mornington Island on his trailer boat trip from Darwin to PNG, everything is going well, although it could have gone badly wrong ... he was almost smashed by a spanish mackerel that wedged between his antenna and hull

Mate! you got no idea how common that is, I spent hours measuring spanish mackerel before mounting my antenna.Matt Flynn wrote:Crackers has called in from off Mornington Island on his trailer boat trip from Darwin to PNG, everything is going well, although it could have gone badly wrong ... he was almost smashed by a spanish mackerel that wedged between his antenna and hull

Re: Crackers 60hp PNG adventure
I'm not sure what he meant
Crackers has been to Sweers and Betinck Islands in the Gulf of Carpentaria, he is now at Karumba ... caught more fish, had more adventure, eaten more mud crab dinners ... http://www.facebook.com/FriendsofPapuaNewGuinea
He'll be heading up the west side of Cape York soon, then to Seisia, then to PNG in the Little Red Boat ...
