I know this is the way of the world i.e. fish get eaten by other fish. But the amount of half fish found I've seen this year got me thinking. I wonder how many of these fish were caught and released recently? I'd think that after a long fight at the end of the rod would make a large fish very tired. And even though it swims away after being 'swum', has it got the get up and go to outrun a 6' bull shark?

But I guess it would have a higher survival rate than the fillet and release approach

You wouldn't want your boat to sink out there, that's for sure - if the bull sharks don't get you the crocs will.

Or you'd be run over or hooked up by a big set of 6X trebles :-)

That would make for a better headline Matt. Bull Shark nails Metre Slayer. Lessons on the foodchain

Nothin wrong with putting the fish back in the net to revive it, saves losing a hand to crocs or sharks.

If they are knackered I try to release them in a sheltered eddy or beside a snag....not always possible
Its not a crisis unless there is blood around.
If there is blood around......well its a police matter...

Such a shame, try and do the right thing and it's mother nature who finds a cruel way to through it back in your face.

Yeah once a fish is knackered after a long fight it becomes a easy meal for a hungry bull shark. I read a report a while ago that said after landing a good fish move away 50m-100 m away before reviving and releasing it to a snag. Not sure how well this would work at the mouth of sampan or tommycut

I use the "fillet and release method" and it works ok. the meat you cut off just grows back after a while
