Larrakeyah rockwall

Post by Affymac »

Just a query,
When people talk about the rockwall at Larrakeyah,
which one are they fishing? Small straight one or the larger
dog leg one?
Is the access restricted to just the select few who work on the base?
Am heading up in April and from what I've read, it's a top land based spot.
Would love to give it a go.
Affy

Otherwise if you cant get access try the Cullen Bay marina rockwall. Just be careful rock hopping down there..many have come down crashing. THe Cullen Bay rockwall is also good for pelagics like tuna and queenfish as they hang around the sandbar.

Yep i got a 53cm coral trout there one time. have seen a bloke pick up two barra on a fly rod, mackies tuna jewfish, almost everything will cruise past there.

Last night i ended up with two trevs about 70cm a mother in law for crab bait and had a good run from a queenie about 90cm that hit the lure at my feet.

Nice pic of the barra there Aaron, hope all is well in that part of the world for you right now.

Quick question for fishing the wall.

Is the preference bait? Live/dead? Or does everyone just use a variety of lures/plastics/metals??

Just wondering as I will be moving up soon and plan on giving it a go.

Nice fish there Aaron G, does he fish there regularly?
Davey D, would be great to catch up and have a fish if possible. Sounds like you fish
there quite a bit. Like most landbased spots I have read about in Darwin,
seems like a ripper of a place to fish.

You can't go wrong with livies down, however metals and soft plastics (6 inch gulp nuclear chicken and 1/4 ounce jig head my favourite for GT's and the reef spiecies) and poppers. Just make sure you have good leader as there are plenty of rocks.

gettin' a bit busy for my liking now, with all the increased landbased stuff and now even guides hitting it i only fish it when im really desperate to catch something lol.
certainly does produce the goods though if you want some pelagics.
