where to fish in the next week or so???

Post by Jackh »

Gday Guys, my brother is visiting for 10 days. Just wondering if there is anywhere worth putting the boat in for a fish. That's if we get a break in the wind and rain. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi Jack. What size boat? I would drag it down to shady fresh and chase barra. Go early morning to avoid the storms but its pretty quiet now any way. I don't think the harbour is much cop right now.

Yep bynoe and salt water arm for bait fishing and maybe a barra, then shady as mud suggested, fresh water, good chance of a barra and great birdlife n crocs etc. The dirt road out that way is normally spot on as far as dirt goes.

To shady camp (turn left about 12k past the bark hut inn) go all the way to the barrage ((follow the road for54k with two sign posted left hand turns near the end). Whe you get to the barrage you will see a boatramp to the right....look left of the barrage and you willl see the fresh water ramp. It's easy to use.

Excellent thanks for the tips. Going to hit up shady on Sunday early so I'll keep everyone posted as to how it fishes!
Would it be best to use weedless softie's or troll and cast hard bodies?

You could do both. At first light troll hard bodies beside the lillies and over the rockbar....as it warms up switch to soft plackies (weedless) and throw them into snags and over the lillies.

Well Shady Fresh was a success, just over 50 fish for the day. The mrs and my brother had a ball, we got there just on sunrise had the boat in the water by 6:30 am and headed off, lots of crocs and tarpon surfacing everywhere. rigged up with Zman 4" swimmers weedless and started casting. We were getting hits left right and centre but failing to hook the fish. Changed all the rigs over to TT 1/8 headlocks 2/0 jigheads and started hooking up. i managed to hook a small barra, then the mrs hooked onto a real good saratoga. Fished for a couple of hours then it quietened off. threw a couple of zman frogs on and started casting deep into the lillies. well after about 10 hits and the toga spitting the lures or getting snagged in the lillies sarah landed a good fish, i think it was the tighten the drag and scull drag them flat out, out of the lillies that worked. by 2pm we had landed a bucket load of tarpon, 6 barra and 5 saratoga we headed home. had a great day big thanks to MUD for the PM advice. Cheers

So i fished aroudn the six pack creek area over the weekend, i personally didnt do that well and it was my first time to this area. Pan sized snapper everywhere on the rock bars, few barra around the 50's and 60's being caught as well a few jack after speaking to a few people on the water.
My boat had 2 bibs snap off lucifers in the space of 3 or 4 minutes on the troll, i think they were big jack!
A few snapper and a feed of crab i'm sure there was someone out there that did worse then we did.

Was a great weekend away anyway, huge storm Sunday night was interesting, will go back to this area again soon
