Funny story to the use of a lanyard. A few mates of mine were recently tossed out of their boat in similar circumstances. Hit the wake of a boat on one of our big rivers and oversteered and flipped them out. Any way all survived drowning and snapping handbags and were assisted by another boatie. The assisting boatie points out the lanyard to the skipper saying "You should be wearing this".
The boys bailed their boat and continued fishing for the day. At some point, the skipper had obviously been carefully considering the advice of the boatie but had a problem with it. Says to his deckie "How's this little rope supposed to stop me falling out??!"
