Yellow waters boat ramp June long weekend

Post by sheps »

The boat ramp is still closed even though the water is almost at dry season height and the channel from home billabong is very shallow due to a heap of rocks that have been dumped at the home billabong end.

Glad I have a hornet as we were able to drag it through the channel and had yellow waters to ourselves :D

I always wondered about that man made rock across the channel out of home billabong. I was there a few weeks back and had 410mm of water on the gauge as you head in. But the channel itself had about a metre most of the way up the centre. Get rid of the rocks and access would have been possible for weeks.

Forget the access stories - How was the fishing? It was tarpon and toga central for me with only 3 barra silly enough to come aboard.

Was there on the weekend, didnt venture into Yellow Waters as the top ender prob wouldnt have made it over the rock barrier with a full load in it.

Was restricted to Home billabong and even put in at Mardugul Sunday Morning but had similar success to everyone else. saratoga all weekend with only 2 barra boated.

Will put report up later on once I have got the pics off the camera.

So what's the reason for the boat ramp to be still closed?

I'm guessing the good ol' story of the boat ramp being damaged following the wet.

Kada-dont again it seems!!! Same as last year.

The people at Cooinda did mention something about water levels not receding enough for it to be safe.

However it is safe enough for them to transit their paying cruise customers to the pontoon next to the ramp.

Allot of slavinia weed in Home billabong too which is a bit sad to see was especially think around the launching area.

The Salvinia problem will only get worse with the way the Yellow Water cruise boats drive through it chopping it to pieces.

They want it free of boats so there cruises seem remote. They claim that they do not want the road damaged and we all know their busses obviously do not damage the road. It's a con but it's the territory get used to it.

Maybe next location for TO’s to restrict (read: remove) access too - as soon as their native title is recognised?

The ramp is well and truly dry, fishos just must not be welcome at yellow waters.
