Went to replace my spark plugs last week and found the 2nd plug down snapped off at the thread. I,ve taken it round to the small engine bloke who tried everything he could think of to remove it. Through the boro scope, It appears a heli-coil has been inserted at some stage and the thread has bound to it. This motor has 1250 hrs on the clock, being an ex hire boat. Looks like I,m going to have to go down the path of getting the head removed and machined. Gaz has no gear to do this and has admitted defeat.
Was normally fully serviced at the frogs or I&O. Both have no recollection of helicoils in this motor. Would this be the go or should I try and source a re-con head? Any thoughts appreciated. John. ( Boats, Bring Out Another Thousand)
