Re: fitting light bars to your boat
This is what I ended up with. Took about an hour to fit and look great in the yard - will test it out on the water tonight.

The only problem will be the accessing the sweet spot when on plane, half plane or trolling

Re: fitting light bars to your boat
Love them - couldn't imagine not having it. Had it for 2 years now and the front of my boat is parked in the full weather. They haven't missed a beat. I use them all the time having them mounted under the gunnel at the front means you eyes can see heaps more as there is no reflection. In my current boat I Have the same one (I just swaped over the spot light when I changed boats) mounted under the Motorguide mount and that is even better as its a little more protected.
The paint has peeled off the metal a bit but still works well. I have done 80km+ runs up rivers like the daily and other places at nite many times with confidence.

New mounting spot
- having said all that - 2 years is a long time and there may be much better cheaper stuff around now.

Re: fitting light bars to your boat
Thanks Jon. I like the idea of putting them down low to stop reflections, I just need to find something that can fit in with the low profile gunnels on my boat and the travel cover.
I have been checking out www.stedi.com.au which appears to have some good value gear, Australian too. Has anyone any experience with this brand?

Re: fitting light bars to your boat
I tried a set of 8 inch HIDs on my boat with both spot and flood filter lenses and found the beam to be too narrow. I went on Ebay and picked up a dual flood and spot lightbar for $140. Its only about 300mm long and has four layers of lights and pumps out 14000 lumens. I used uhf aerial mounting brackets to attach it to the rail on my quinny and I've had no issues for 18mths and it cops a beating on dirt roads and from salt spray. Its possible to wire it for high beam and low beam but I haven't tried that. I had to buy a relay and a switch because none of that was supplied. Its been a great mod but as mentioned earlier you still need a quality hand held spotlight. Heres an example of what it looks like:http://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayIS ... 4546326031

i got the same setup as Jonr after hearing good feedback from Jon. I'm really happy with the light and the position of it under the MG. it was brillant down the mouth of the south.
