Big queenfish

Post by Matt Flynn »

Anyone caught a 7kg+ queenfish lately? I haven't seen a biggun for yonks, mind you I haven't really been fishing for them either. I've seen plenty of small ones.

I noticed in the old Arafaura GFC fishing comp at Dundee that over the years the queenfish (skinnies) weighed in got smaller and smaller.

Not lately Matt but in october last year we we're consitently getting Queenies over 7kg with Tuna and Macks thrown in as well. These schools of fish were thick to and great fun to catch. Awesome sight watching big Queenies cart wheeling all over the ocean surface and they sure do fight. I've got photos but they were put to film so I can't post em.

Skinnies

Post by chanos »

I was a foundation member of the Arafura GFC and you are dead right Matt, I believe the average size of the skinnies has dropped a lot over the last 15 years or so. We used to get monsters off the wharf at Larrakeyah navy base smashing squid all night but rare to see them now. Still lotso small ones about though.

Fishing is not a matter of life and death, it is far more serious than that.
