Fella,s , it was just crappy journalism.
One of the blokes interviewed was APA,s Mr Goon. He owned a company that put forward a submission to modernise the F111. It was laughed out, and he has been a very hard critic of the JSF ever since.
The capabilities of the JSF are SECRET. Those who are extreamly critical of it publicy, know next to nothing about it.
The RAAF want this jet, no matter what the media say. The people who know what it CAN do now, want it. tHERE IS no COMPARABLE aircraft anywhere in the world now, no, not even the F22.
The investments we have already made with the wedgetail AWAC,s will see capabilities that other countries could not even imagine. Its expensive, but will be worth it in the long run.

All new builds have teething problems. The Collins were no different, but after they were fixed they became, and still are, a world class fighting force. Also, there are different levels of capabilities. Stuff released to the public is bugger all

Bit of a worry though in any public utility, when they don't have to show performance, given the lack of performance in areas which aren't secret ...

You only have to look at some of the scandals in the USA defence contracts.

Arms salesman: "Here is the mega-smart ultra-bomb as ordered. That will be $30 million please, and $3 million for the military field toilet."
Goverment: "Thank you, here is your $33 million."

Six months later ...
Government: "We are having problems with the bomb, and the toilet."
Arms salesman: "We can fix that, for another $50 million."

Six months later ...
Reporter: "Did the government pay $50 million to fix the new smart bomb?"
Government: "No comment, it's secret."

To show true performance with the Collins and JSF means war. Not sure anyone wants to see that

I just watched the 4corners show about it and what an eye opener
More and more countries are pulling out of their deal re the JSF. I was amazed that even the boss yank airforce bloke admitted that they were a dud.
You watch as our pollies will blindly fall into line and spend our hard earned $ on another dud.
Doesnt matter, weve got heaps to spare as long as we follow the yanks amd do what they say

I will believe them when I see them online (not the internet), they are a unicorn at the moment but something needs to be done asap to replace the aging and expensive hornets.

I just wonder how many blokes out there have put together a rather extensive marketing campaign to their Minister of War and Finance for a boat/motor/trailer package. And once said package is passed by Herr Fuhrer, how many add ons are secretly passed through underground channels to make it a fishing weapon? i.e. deck wash, side scan, minn kota, travel covers etc etc etc
