Post Posted: Mon Apr 23, 2018 4:01 pm    Post subject: SWA OPEN. .. plenty of areas still slosed though

Just looked up a few spots out Kakadu way for planning the May day weekend... wasn't that hopeful really after following the SWA saga closely for months ... it's finally open to high clearance 4WD today a few hours ago.. .

Anyhow getting back to my search on kakadu.
Not good news unfortunately. Spot still shut 'till JUNE ??

Heaps of other spots still closed too and it's almost May ???! :banghead:

Worse still most are not even getting prepped yet ... or maybe they're just fishing really well for the in crews while we all wait on the other side of a locked gate? ..... marrakai track meanwhile was open all the way to the rivers while the crossing gates remained open too from last season even though they were 2 m underwater.??? double standards big time.?

eg. . At 2 mile on the Wildman, last year they opened it with the infamous creek dry and bulk traffic had used the campground already. Or at the south crossing on the old jim jim road the day it opened we'd headed in to find out a 2wd hilux would've been fine to cross it and only a few rats remained in the prime spots . "Open to High clearane 4WD tho.". Honestly they're getting a bit retarded with this stuff nowadays a lot of people I've known over the years whove visited the place still call it KAKADONT.

"You do some really BIG miles and there's NO sense of actual offroad adventure allowed inside the park anymore just heaps of miles of tarmac and occasionally the odd dirt section to another tourist spot that would've been a good adventure 20 or 30 years back . . . "

Bucket billabong is probably the most inacessable one of them all on that list and is a bit rough from the south side entry for 5m or bigger boats on Xtrails but they won't open it for months yet.

in other words : don't hold your breath people unless by some miracle they open it at the last minute....... which would be pretty bl..dy unlikely  .!!!!

Looks like it'll be interesting to see the traffic at the few spots that are actually going to be open. wont name any prime spots tho. ... makes it worse i reckon... . LOL

mate i hit kakadu last weekend most tracks are dry and would easily get tru in 2wd. but all have closed sings on them.. and the fish are on the chew out there we bagged over 45 rats and 12 keepers in a day land based, if we had access to the better spots would haved cleaned up.. i like to think.

Yep, they’ve been doing it for years. We used to get into Pococks in May. Lucky if the track opens before August these days.
