Hey all,
Opening day for waterfowl in a good breeding year is usually 1 September, that's only six weeks away, does anyone know if there has there been any indication of when a bird count will occur or when an announcement will be made regarding season dates this year? Took a drive to Harrison's and Lambells on Sunday and both are holding a lot more water than this time last year!
Cheers.

There were plenty of birds out there breeding when a mate went on a survey flight earlier in the year. More details shortly.

Harrison dam is the spot.
I've been slayin them down there for years mate always plenty of spots to slay em... the first week goes off but they clue on pretty quickly as to where they get shot at ....
then u will need good ol 00 steel shot and 33 '' barrels to drop em with 5m of lead unless you want to get chewed by a big salty up to your nuts in the water out in the middle of it....

Thanks Matt, will standby for any further info you manage to dig up, just hope its not a 1 October start like last year. Know what you mean about the crocs Goldfish, gave up dunking the tackle about 5 seasons back, not to mention Leptospirosis, kind of hoping that was around only because of a run of bad wet seasons and the lack of good flush of the system.

Field and Game has their opinion on the upcoming season in the latest NTMAG. Bart Irwin said there appeared to be a lot of breeding during the big Wet.

I'd be interested to know if any research has been conducted in to the effect hunting outside of the Gov permitted timeframe has on the population of geese and ducks.
