saw a big mob of buffs the other week, bulls cows, calfs .. no ear tags

once they got a whiff of me they meandered off in a long line ... being led by a white drought master cow ...

is that unusual ?

Would be very careful about asuming that untagged cattle are not stock. Lots of stations run buff and they are worth $$$. Seems stations can even claim buff that have roamed outside their boundaries. :|

yeah mate point taken

they all wandered off safley as i wouldnt shoot a buff unless he was a designated killer ... about as much sport as running over a cane toad IMHO (off the back of a ute anyway)

now watching someone take one down with a bow ... that is a different story

saw some of your bow kills before whomps you are obviously a bit of guru

but knocking over a buff bull with a compound bow ... that is hardcore!

saw a mate of mine get one once and im not an expert but my only advice would be to shoot from near a big tree ...

i know someone will put a post up saying that arrows have tremendous stopping power .... b#llshit ! if you are a couple of inches off get ready to run !

Thats true John, I have seen video of Brad Smith shooting an arrow right through a big buff bull, was a perfect shot though... You need someone backing you up with a big gun...... Having said that a Buff should never know you were even there... if you know how to bow hunt that is. I would never shoot at a buff that had some idea I was around, just asking for trouble.......

taking a buff with the bow is definately an adreniline rush  taking one with traditional equipment is better again  have taken numerous buff with compound and trad gear alike awesome fun if you got the nerves for it  never had a backup rifle but have always had a few other vary bowhunters hiding close by in the bush  have on many occasion seen them interact with cattle no prob! Its actually quite amazing how quick a wild buff can be tamed/pacified, seen buff rounded up at mt kepler and within days calm enough to pat them :o
this one was taken with a 70# recurve

There are guys in Aus taking pigs with nothing but a hand held spear now. Heard a couple of blokes went to Katherine with Matt Graham to have a go at Buff but didnt pull it off. Something you would need rather large balls for Im guessing.
