Lake Kununurra Advice

Has anyone got any tips on fishing the lake this time of year? I’ve been far from consistent with plenty of doughnuts lately. Heaps of Barra on the sounder but can only convince the odd few to bite.
Cheers

Dick Pasfield wrote about them in the mag, from memory he said you find them and have to wait around until the fish are ready to chew. He mentioned that a fish leaving the school as seen on sonar might be a sign something is going to happen. Impression I got was that a lot of night fishing and waiting was involved. He will probably lob on here at some stage, he has caught some crackers there.

Big plastics fishing deep bouncing off bottom. I've only been targeting the fast water below spillway as two young boys means other priorities but I've been fishing dawn for a few hours only.
Big plastics = 6" plus with Trebble stingers up front - look at TT SwimlockZ or weedless with stingers on eye - Barra will hit them head first so the stingers do the job 8)
New Minn Kota helps :D :D

If you can grab hold of that article, was recent be worth a read. But yes big plastics work well, don't think there's such a thing as too big but so do hardbodies in places. This time of year the window can be short, maybe only a few minutes. Like you said finding fish is no problem but getting them to bite is the issue. Stay on the school, put in the hours and the the bits of the puzzle will come together.

Incidentally if you're getting bites your ahead of the game on a lot of people's books and on track, just a matter of perseverance. Plenty of people don't get a bite.

Cheers palaran, I’ve just started running a stinger on my bigger plastics so fingers crossed the hookup rate should go up! There’s loads of country up to there explore so I’ll have to give it a crack.

Thanks Dick, I read your article mate, loads of info. Frustrating fishing at times but when you can see them on the sounder and the fact that they do have some size about them keeps you going back. I’ll have to give it a go at night and see what it brings. Just bulk hours it seems like...

Early days in the eastern states impoundments had the same issues attached until they cracked the code over there. Big learning curve for us over here to go through. They're a fish of a 1,000 casts but none of the fish are small

Hey Dick,
just a query on how it works for bringing our NT boats over that way for a fish, obviously all the safety gear is probably mostly the same im guessing? How does it work for operating a boat there at the lake, do we need temp licenses or any such?

cheers mate
