We went out the bl..dy what's it called Saltwater arm for the weekend. Fished the mouth with a few livies out on some gutters. Managed a small thready 35cm so we chucked him on the ice. Then my rod went off as I set it down on the ground and It went flying into the water. Luckily I always clip on chain floats so if my rods do go in the drink I can see them. I wasn't losing my 800 buck combo so I jumped in swam over and grabbed the buoy. I then swam back to my mate in the boat and pulled it In to find it was a damn Powertail. :banghead We kept him anyway for crab pot bait. Apart from some sharks and more fat Powertail that's it.

The success was not becoming lunch. Although the float was just below the outboard it was instinct to just jump in a very stupid idea. The crocs I've seen come up behind the boat is dead scary. Me and my mate were fishing up the south alligator one afternoon about 8 or 9 years ago. We just got sidetracked flicking lures when 5 min later I went to check the back and there was a 3.5 croc sitting 5 m from the outboard out of the corner of my eyes. It's only happened a couple times but have seen huge crocs 4m plus out west arm and have been stalked a couple of times by big fellas. And don't use a small tinny where you know big crocs are lurking Trust me it ain't fun. Be crocwise

Don't know about it being "instinct' to jump in to recover something no matter what the value. We used to use the old Ngukurr barge as a "mother" and all sleep on the barge deck at Crocodile Ck down river.

During the night when going for a leak over the stern, we left a torch hanging there. Rule was to shine torch around the water at the stern BEFORE fronting up. Eyes reflections everywhere out on river proper but what surprised me was how many eyes we saw at different times within 20 m of barge.
