Easter long weekend suggestions

Post by Elks2403 » Mon Mar 26, 2018 11:00 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to the Territory and have recently bought a 4wd. I was hoping for some suggestions on where I can take it for some easy 4wding and some landbased fishing around Darwin this weekend.

I'm not after secret spots but if I could be pointed in the right direction that would be much appreciated!

Cheers!

A quick lap up the howard will let you know its limitations pretty quickly and it is in mobile range to ring your mates if, or more than likely when you get bogged as. Dundee and mandorah are other options for a casual dangle.

Take recovery gear and travel with another vehicle is lesson 1

Carry plenty of water lesson 2

Walk anything that looks sketchy. 5 min walk saves 5 hrs cutting trees for in the ruts ,high lift jacking and winching

I don't reckon you're going too far offroad this time of year as a lot of areas up here are blacksoil and quite soft ATM. if you dont know what blacksoil is you're in for a surprise when u hit it. Often giong straght down bogged to the diffs. Is the results. Even on 35s at 15psi in the bad bits .

Have fun and hope you get a few.

Try the freshwater Finniss mate, turn left down hard castle road just before sand palms, drive to the t junction and turn right, go through the dip, should be about 600 /700 mm and at the end of that road u will see a creek to the right of the boat ramp, beware of big croc.

Cheers guys. I think I've convinced a mate to come along so that'll allow me to be a bit more daring

Whichever way you go ... gunn pt road and hardcastle rd both have road condition posts on here if you could take a couple of pics then post them up on the appopriate thread that'd be awesome.

Hardcastle rd. Spot is pretty much 100% bitumen and 2km of dirt road .. not much 4WD action except a ck to the left to get bogged 3/4 ers up your doors in ... later in the year that track comes out on the litchfield park road both above and if you cross walkers fjord below the townsend bridge going past some good barra spots too.

Cheers .. flickn.

So I ended up opting for the easuer option of Shady camp and having a flick in the culverts on Arnhem Hwy. Ended up with half a dozen rat barra and half a dozen tarpon for the trip.

I had a look at Scott's Creek on the way and it seems the road is closed. Unless I was in the wrong spot
