Leanyer Drains

Post by happy slave »

Went for a quick flick up the drains on sunday last week, trying out a new rod and reel , and i was getting strikes every cast, hooked up in total 22 barra, however the biggest only went to 30cm and i lost count on the tarpon, all good fun though as the reel came spooled with 10lb mono which provided for some fun, it was also good to see that we have such a good fish nursery so close to town and that Buffalo Creek isn't too polluted by the sewerage outfall yet

Happy Slave,

I used to work for a corperation that backed onto Leanyer drains. You prob already know this but when it rains for around 3 days straight, head there at night with a spotty and throw small lures across the drains. I caught 53 barra in one night sesh there about december last yr and the biggest went 73cm. No to keen on eating them though as the drains if you explore them on a low tide during the springs are filled with oil, rubbish and other junk that washes from the road.. good fun though.. really good fun.
It has always been my private conviction that any man who pits his intelligence against a fish and loses has it coming.

Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

“Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime”

"Soon after I embraced the sport of angling I became convinced that I should never be able to enjoy it if I had to rely on the cooperation of the fish."

Yeah knew that JewieQueen, when i was down there it was after that last big dumping of rain on a rising 7 mtr tide, never would eat anything from down there, even though it gets a decent flush out every year with the wet season and tides. Also for any of you fish keepers out there it is also a good place for Blue eyes, Scats, Mono's and Archer Fish

The northern suburb drains all effectively flow into the sewage treatment plant in leyanyer, from there it then spews into Buffalo creek via 'green creek'.

Where abouts in the drains do you guys fish and at what tides or do they not make much difference?

You can make the image bigger by clicking on it. Does the tide effect it? or is it rain that makes it fish better?
