Daly River might be sucked dry

Talk about bungled boat ramps, net buybacks, marine no-go zones, mining disasters etc here.

Daly River might be sucked dry

Post by Matt Flynn »

This recent poor wet season has been an example of what can happen to Top End waterflow in a bad year, in this case in the north-west catchment.

AFANT president Warren de With told FFF he is very concerned about the draft water management plan for the Daly catchment, saying it over-allocates for industry and under-allocates for the environment.

He is also concerned about variation in rainfall.

"How can you allocate the pie when you don't know what the pie is," he said.

Here is the draft plan, which is now open for public discussion ... https://denr.nt.gov.au/__data/assets/pd ... -draft.pdf

Anyone who cares should make a submission, they can be emailed to [email protected]

That's the beauty of having a plan
Failure then comes as a complete surprise.

You can bet your bippee that these guys have been looking seriously at how others have done it (inc the Murray Darling).

As probably the last state to address these issues, the NT should be able to go into such an exercise aware of general shortcomings or mistakes that others have made.
