Come on fishing community of Darwin lets band together to make some real change.
There are a number of face book pages coming up calling for the banning of commercial netting of Barra round Anson bay and Dundee.
We have a good fishery but it could be world class. The government has allocated 50mil to rec fishing let's use that to buy or The netting licences and create a massive net free area!

"It is just ridiculous that our Governement here in the NT still allows such a destructive practice. No fish or Mammal or Reptile ever gets released from a net alive. Sawfish have their rostrum snapped off, Turtles and Dugongs drown, Crocodiles legally and illegally shot, Target species left to bake in the sun, as opposed to humane dispatch. Greatest tourism con ever by the Govt, promoting Barra fishing for recreational anglers. Plus the destruction that all meting does to Traditionally owned waterways. This has to stop. Single line caught fish only should be allowed." Dean Blackman on Face book

Totally agree with all of the above and please do yourselves a favour. If you clean up in these areas please keep your traps shut. How do you think the pros gauge that its worth shooting nets in areas close to Darwin again?!?

True deepblack. These social media broadcasts simply tell the pros to go n net it. Netting wild fish is soooo yesterday or should be. The NT will and is loosing millions of dollars to Qld impoundments and their fishery. We have a opportunity to be the undesputed No 1 Barra fishery in the country, bringing in millions of tourist dollars and a huge boost for local businesses, so why isn't it happening???
